Bird Condo

We had our tree in the front yard trimmed the other day and the limbs are still in a pile waiting to be picked up. The birds are all over.  I believe they are depressed because their condo is undergoing renovations.  It's like they were all visiting and "re-living" all of the memories they had in their condo in the tree...

They're really going to be depressed when the limbs go away...

Another Cardinal

Ok - I've got the catching the red bird down - now my sights are set on a blue one (and red, and yellow, and an eagle if they should show up).

A Surprise Visitor

I've seen probably 2 cardinals flying around our house in the 10 years we've lived here. Yesterday as I was setting up my camera to monitor the bird feeder this cardinal flew in to visit. He surprised me, plus he didn't stay long, so I barely had time to focus. They're not perfect photos by any means, but I will work on that - I just hope it won't be another 10 years before the next cardinal stops by to visit.

Morning Bath

This is perhaps why they call it a bird bath.

Bird Chatter

Seems to be a lot of conversation at the feeder.

Robin

A satisfied diner. I'm enjoying the bird feeder probably more than the birds. I think I'll investigate a feeder that will attract humming birds.

Breakfast Guests

Word must be spreading through the bird population as we had several guests for breakfast yesterday. There was even a morning dove in the bird bath and the occasional black bird who would try to bully the little ones into giving up their space. They didn't give in... Seems there are bullies every where.

Bird Breakfast

So far it is my neighbor's bird feeder which is getting all of the traffic. I shot this with my 100 mm - 400 mm lens (after my neighbors went to work so thy didn't thinking I was peering into their windows).

It was fun to watch. The bird on the feeder kicked the other bird off and you can only imagine what that bird is telling "the bully".

I'm sure the neighbor birds will discover my feeder -

Bird Feeder

I added a bird feeder yesterday to a stand we have in front of the house. The neighbor across the street has several bird feeders and yesterday there was a wood pecker pecking away making a perfect photo op. I pulled out my 100 mm - 400 mm lens when it dawned on me that people might think I was looking into their windows. So, I added my own bird feeder. A friend of mine who feeds birds says I should be patient as the word will spread among the bird community that there is food at the Hills...I anxiously await the photo ops!!

Bird Buffet

The birds love harvest time in Iowa because once a field is cleared they have their own (very large) buffet. There seems to be a disagreement with the 2 birds in the foreground.

Bird(s)

I had heard that there were Eagles near a lake in Waterloo and thought I'd go out and take a picture. Perhaps I thought that since they are our national symbol, that they would just strike a pose. Well... no Eagles - but I did see a gull, a hawk, a robin and a sparrow. I wasn't about to come home without any pictures, so here are 4 bird pictures [perhaps I am over-compensating for no Eagle pictures]. I'll keep trying for the Eagles...
