Kitty Kat

Sad Eyes
Such sad eyes - I think (he) or (she) was disappointed that the birds were staying away - either that or his (her) butt was cold...!

Light My Fire

Light My Fire
I get excited when I see 1 maybe 2 cardinals at my bird feeder in Waterloo.  At my friends, Tom and Linda, in Burlington, there were literally dozens of cardinals.  It seemed that every where I looked there were cardinals - bluejays, woodpeckers, snow birds, cats, cows, and an eagle even flew by...

Eagles Everywhere

My friends Tom and Linda have welcomed me with open arms, fed me, patched up a cut I managed to give myself, and Tom patiently waiting as I shot at least 600 Eagle photos.  I also have photos of cardinals and a variety of other fowl and architecture.

There was no way I could choose just one so I have put a few over on my Flickr account - http://www.flickr.com/photos/rallenhill/sets/72157625759564517/.  Enjoy the ones here, but take a minute to visit the other site.

I went to the "Eagle Weekend" in Keokuk, Iowa last weekend - evidently the Eagles didn't know it was Eagle Weekend because they have all been hanging out in Burlington.

End of Game Photo(s)

1.9 Seconds - In or Bounce?
Swish - End of Game 1.6 Seconds
I am in Burlington, Iowa this week staying with friends as I wait for my spouse to return from California (by train).  We went to a high school basketball game tonight where I kept busy taking photos... (hold that thought)...

I arrived in Burlington earlier this afternoon and stopped by the Mississippi to see if there were any eagles - and there were, swooping and fishing and I did get some excellent photos.  So, why you might ask is my picture of the day of a basketball game?  Look at the first photo - look at the second.  Mediapolis won at the buzzer.

Paper Hat Man

Short of subjects today - tired of bird pictures - and I need to practice with lights and some new software, so I set up, sat down, and, well, this is my favorite - if I have such a thing...  There is something odd about this hat - complete strangers tell me it looks cool, and one guy wanted to buy it.  The women at work have nicknamed me the "Paper Hat Man"...  In regards to the photograph the eyes are spot on, in focus, with the light ring in the pupil.  The subject is clear, the background blurred - now if we could get this guy to smile...

Portraits Using Flash

R. Allen

I was working with lighting and backdrops and had no one to pose - so, I posed my self.  That's a bit challenging to get, not only the lights right, but to sit in the right place, smile, and remember to keep my head down to avoid glare in my glasses.  I shot at least 100 photos until I got 3 that were ok - which turned into the one above [I didn't dress up].   I was rescued by Andrea, my oldest step daughter who agreed to sit and pose while I putzed...  much better looking than the original subject!!

Grumpy or Thinking?

Working with setting up lights - strobes or/and continuous lights. Since I was in the basement by myself, with no one to shoot - I got in the chair. I'm not my favorite subject. As photographs go - still a bit dark, glare in my glasses and I was looking for more of a dramatic shadow on the right (as you are looking at the picture). I have grand children visiting this weekend, so perhaps I can get one of them to sit in the chair...

iMac Photo Booth

Sometimes getting a photo day is difficult. Yesterday was hectic and busy and I didn’t get any photographs taken. So, here I am this morning with no photograph to post. Then I thought – hey – there’s a camera on my iMac so I took a photo using Photo Booth, played with some of the effects and here is the result. Now I have a photo to post.
